You might remember AFX slot cars from your youth. Slot cars were really popular in the 1960s and 1970s. They were great fun for dads and sons. They still are thanks to AFX and other slot car brands. In fact, I think they are better now than they were back then with better materials and faster cars and other innovations.
 
The AFX Infinity Raceway is an affordable slot car set with 8.5 feet of track that makes up a traditional figure 8 and could be a good way to gauge interest if you are buying a set for the kids.    
 
One of the frustrations when you first start racing is controlling the speed of the cars round the corners so they don’t come flying off. For this reason AFX have introduced a new power pack or transformer called the Tri-Power pack. With this pack you have three settings – Beginner, Intermediate, Expert. The Beginner setting allows you to race round the corners at full speed and stay on the up to 90% of the time.
 
The longest available set at the moment is the AFX Giant Raceway with a total of 62.5 feet of track with loads of twists and turns. It takes about 45 minutes to assemble and only needs 4 by 8 feet of space to accommodate it all.
